Dear you guys,
I sat down at my desk last night, burning with the desire to storyboard the short I'm currently working on. But I decided I needed new and better storyboarding sheets.
Google Image Searched for a nice one. Stumbled upon something cool, saved it, wiped it clean in Photoshop... Then I improved it a bit. Then I thought "this is really nice, and would be better if I could use it for all my projects". Exported screengrabs of every aspect ratio in FCP.
A few hours later, I find myself with, if I do say so myself, a kickass, high resolution, photoshop storyboarding template.
What do I do when I have something cool ? I share it, of course.
Here is an example of what it looks like.
So we're talking about a high res (300 dpi) file for sharp prints. Every aspect ratio known to FCP is available in a dedicated layer set. The project info is fully customizable thanks to editable text regions. Same thing with each shot's info.
The available aspect ratios are 4:3, 1.66:1, 1.70:1, 1.78:1, 1.85:1, 2.35:1, 2.55:1, and 3.00:1.
Practically, what I'm offering here is a way to storyboard all your projects either digitally, with a wacom tablet and typed out info, or the old fashionned way, on printed out sheets with blank fields. Either way, you'll end up with a nice set of storyboards, sure to impress the masses when you're on set, turning those sketches into shots.
DOWNLOAD :
Option 1 - for PHOTOSHOP users : http://www.productionspierreforte.com/sam/Storyboard_tpl.psd
Everything is in there, within this approximately 6 Mb file. Select your desired aspect ratio by turning on/off the appropriate layer (I chose 1.85:1 to show up as the default choice - feel free to change that if you please).
Option 2 - non-photoshop people : http://www.productionspierreforte.com/sam/Storyboard_tpl_blanks.zip
This archive contains blank templates for each aspect ratio. Either take them into your own image editor, or print them out and use a good old pen.
Hmmmm... that's about it. I'm trying to keep this short. But there is one more thing I need to point out :
The storyboard page I used to create the template is :
It was designed and drawn by Joshua Siegel of Arcadian Entertainment. I emailed him about distributing a template based on his, and he was kind enough to agree. So again, thank you Joshua.
Enjoy.
The End.
Fade Out.
